つくば市上ノ室は、静かな水田が続くのどかな農村だ。
学園都市として知られ、茨城屈指の大都市であるつくば市にほど近いが、驚くほど穏やかな時間が流れている。
5月、まだ夏の気配も遠い上ノ室の田んぼには、植えたばかりの稲が風に撫でられて静かに揺れていた。
木々と竹林に囲まれた集落は、かつて戦国時代には、一帯を統治していった小田氏の家臣が上ノ室城を築いた場所でもある。
今はその城跡もどこにあったのか名残すらわからない。
夕暮れ時、ただただ蛙の声が響いていた。

Uenomuro, Tsukuba City is a peaceful farming village with quiet rice paddies.
Although it is close to Tsukuba City, known as a school town and one of the largest cities in Ibaraki, the time in Kaminomuro is surprisingly calm.
In May, the newly planted rice plants were swaying quietly in the wind in the rice paddies of Kaminomuro, where the first hints of summer were still far away.
Surrounded by trees and bamboo groves, the village was once the site of Kaminomuro Castle, built in the Warring States Period by the vassals of the Oda clan, who ruled the area.
Today, there is not even a trace of where the ruins of the castle were.
At dusk, the only sound was that of frogs.
